Fortune Mill Guide — Synergy, Automation & Shadow Realm
How every Fortune Mill room boosts the others: cross-room synergy, the automation engines, Shadow Realm marks, and a map of all five currencies.
Community-sourced — compiled from the official Steam store page and cross-checked across public community guides and player reports. Exact formulas aren't published by the developer; multipliers below are the values guides consistently report.
This page is about how the systems feed each other — the reason Fortune Mill's rooms are worth revisiting long after you've paid their tolls. For the room order and pay-late decisions, read the walkthrough instead; the two pages are complementary, not duplicates.
The Five Currencies, Mapped
Four rooms mint four currencies, and a fifth — stuffing — is manufactured in Gacha and cashes out at the exit. Knowing what feeds what is half the game:
| Currency | Minted in | Spent on | Demanded by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | Room 1 darts (bullseyes, Trial Mode, Gunner) | Room 1 upgrades, helpers, Shadow Realm access | the Massive Rat / Verminous |
| Money | Room 2 scratchers (prizes, jackpots, Toad) | Ticket upgrades, Abacus Frog | the Giga Frog / Gorgon |
| Tickets | Pachinko (buckets, dice, Poker Pirate) | Ball flow, pegs, Bubba | Rimmington |
| Ribbons | Sushi (fuel → merge tiers) | Sushi upgrades, Poppy's Wheel plays | Hivemind |
| Stuffing | Gacha (duplicate items trashed) | Gacha throughput, pedestal slots | the Executor — the escape itself |
The Synergy Web: Who Feeds Whom
The store page's pitch — "each new game affects all the others" — is mechanical, not marketing. The verified feedback loops:
| From → To | What actually happens |
|---|---|
| Room 1 → Room 2 | Dart upgrades boost Lotto money — returning to the dart shop after reaching Room 2 makes tickets scale faster |
| Room 2 → Room 1 | Lotto progress (jackpot-line bonuses, e.g. a golden dart-gun) feeds back into dart income — old Room 1 becomes relevant again |
| Sushi → Room 2 | Sushi bonuses improve ticket play — one reported example is +1 life in Money Maze Madness |
| Shadow Realm → Room 1 | Boss kills grant permanent gold multipliers that compound everything Room 1 produces |
| Gacha → everywhere | Passive and pedestal items boost currencies or systems in any room — but only if pedestal items are actually placed |
The practical takeaway: when progress stalls, the fix is usually in a room you've already left. A cheap multiplier, a helper level, or a jackpot-boost in an old room beats grinding the newest one.
Automation: The Four Passive Engines
Fortune Mill's midgame is decided by how much earns while you're not looking. Four engines carry the run:
- Accountant Toad (Room 2) — pays every 30 seconds based on your best wins across all ticket types. This reframes ticket play: a strong run is a permanent raise, and a new ticket color is a new best-win target. Pair with Abacus Frog, whose ticket-EXP levels permanently boost each ticket.
- Auto Throw (Room 1, ~65,000 gold) — one throw every 16.67 seconds, in the background, forever. The reason long Room 2 sessions don't cost you your dart income.
- Auto Drop (Pachinko) — up to 2 balls per second once your ball generation supports it. Balls through pegs earn peg XP, pegs feed buckets, buckets mint tickets.
- Permanent multipliers — the ones that never tick but never stop: Trial Mode's score multiplier, jackpot bonuses, Poppy's Wheel prizes (top visible prize: 2.00x all money gain for all rooms), and Shadow Realm boss-kill multipliers.
Shadow Realm: the Marks Economy
Shadow Realm is a parallel damage-check, not a room — and its real resource is time you spend not in it:
- +1 mark per 5 minutes outside, each mark +10% damage. The clock runs while you play every other room.
- Your dart engine is the base stat. Dart count, Multi-Throw, and Rattling Gunner speed (cheap Faster Machinery levels) are the DPS; marks are the multiplier on top.
- Special dart damage is the gate. Shadow-Realm-specific upgrades (arcane-style darts, reported around +30 damage per hit) are what turn chip damage into kills.
- Extended Stay adds visit seconds — buy it only when attempts are dying just short, not when they're dying at the start.
Cadence that works: attempt once when the realm unlocks (expect almost no damage — that's the tutorial), then upgrade darts, let marks bank during normal play, and return when your engine has visibly doubled. First kill pays Boss Slain plus the permanent gold multiplier.
Trial Mode: When to Re-Run
Trial Mode turns your best board score into a permanent multiplier — roughly 1.4–1.5x for scores in the 40s early, much higher once the board grows. The discipline is in the re-run triggers:
- Re-run after: a new bullseye zone unlocks, a new dart (Multi-Throw level) lands, or a scoring upgrade is bought.
- Don't re-run when: nothing changed — the score ceiling is the same, and the attempt is wasted effort.
- Do it before paying tolls: a fresh multiplier makes every subsequent currency cheaper.
Gacha Items: Passive vs Pedestal
The one rule that saves an hour: not every Gacha item works automatically. Passive items apply without a slot — keep them. Pedestal items do nothing until placed — a strong inactive bonus usually means a full pedestal. Duplicates are not collectibles: trash them into stuffing, the currency the Executor's final toll is paid in. Set bonuses and collection tracking (Bin Goosey, Gumball Goose territory) matter in cleanup, not mid-run.
Fortune Mill Systems — Quick Answers
How do rooms boost each other in Fortune Mill?
Through cross-room upgrades and helpers: Room 2 jackpots grant permanent bonuses that feed Room 1's income, Sushi upgrades add lives to Room 2's Money Maze Madness minigame, Shadow Realm boss kills permanently multiply all gold, and Gacha items boost currencies in any room — as long as passive items are kept and pedestal items are actually placed.
How do Shadow Realm marks work?
You bank one mark for every 5 minutes spent outside the Shadow Realm, and each mark adds +10% damage to your boss attempts. Marks are why waiting beats grinding: frequent short attempts bank nothing, while upgrading your dart engine and returning once is how kills happen.
How does Trial Mode work in Fortune Mill?
Trial Mode converts your best dart-board score into a permanent gold multiplier. A score in the 40s gives roughly 1.4–1.5x early on. The multiplier only improves when the board does — re-run it after new bullseye zones or extra darts, not before.
What is passive income in Fortune Mill?
Helpers and automation that earn while you're elsewhere: Accountant Toad pays every 30 seconds based on your best wins, Auto Throw throws a dart every 16.67 seconds, Auto Drop feeds Pachinko up to 2 balls per second, and jackpot bonuses and Shadow Realm multipliers raise everything permanently.
